07/09 – This Weekend’s Catchup

Crash-out for Trump

  • Department of WHAT! – Is the world going back in time? Trump’s move to change the Pentagon’s name to the Department of War is one to look for. Defence companies will love this.

Poor US Jobs Data dents Trump’s policy

  • Is Trump’s policy really working? Well, the recent evidence shows quite the least, with only 22,000 jobs added last month.
  • Will he revert to his policy or push through? Only time will tell. It might be a daunting Christmas for Americans.

TFL Strike puts London on hold

  • The four-day strike called by RMT (TFL’s workers’ union) is estimated to cause a direct economic impact of £230m.
  • The main purpose of the strike is to reduce the 36 working hours to 32, which TFL says will cause significant stress on their network.
  • With a pay rise being asked for as well, certainly, the fares on the TFL network will soon rise. Whether it will make London unattractive to travel is an extreme question to ask, but it might be one to consider in the future.

Want to Look For:

US inflation data due Thursday – definitely keep an eye on this since it sets the course of future rate cuts

UK GBP data due Friday – will this August’s record summer keep Reeves in bay

Strike aftermath – What will TFL’s response be towards RMT’s strike? Will there be another strike?
